Mr. Imtiaz Ahmad Sahibzada


Mr. Imtiaz Ahmad Sahibzada was born on 26th October, 1936. On graduating from the Peshawar University in 1957, he was inducted into the erstwhile Civil Service of Pakistan on 02.11.1959 through a country-wide competitive examination. He served in different capacities both in the field and in the Secretariat, as Sub-Division al Magistrate, District Magistrate, Deputy Commissioner and Political Agent in a number of Districts and Agencies in the North-West Frontier.

He served in the 1970’s as Secretary to the Government of North West Frontier Province (KPK) in the Departments of Local Government, Rural Development, Agriculture, Cooperatives, Health and Education and, on promotion, as the Additional Chief Secretary, Planning & Development Department, Government of NWFP (1979-85), as Chief Secretary of the Province (April, 1985 to August 1987) and, on transfer to the Government of Pakistan, as Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government & Rural Development (1987-88), Managing Director, Federal Bank for Cooperatives (1 988-90), Chairman, National Tariff Commission (1990-92), Secretary, Environment & Urban Affairs Division (1992-94) and finally as the Cabinet Secretary (1994-96), the apex slot of the bureaucracy, from which post he superannuated.

On superannuation, 26th October, 1996, he was appointed as a Member of the Federal Public Service Commission (1996-1999). On the conclusion of this assignment he was nominated in October, 1999 as one of four members to the National Security Council by the Government of General Pervez Musharraf. He served in this capacity till 16th August, 2000, when he was appointed as the Chairman of the Federal Land Commission, with the status of a Federal Minister. He continued as such till 25th February, 2002 when he was sworn in by the President as the Ombudsman (Wafaqi Mohtasib) of Pakistan.
